Taste Test: Pure Fun Confections
Monday, December 5
Just over a century ago, cotton candy made its official debut at the 1904 Louisiana State Fair. Since then, the sweet fluffy treat has transcended its lowly circus roots, most notably when it became a dessert staple at New York's tony Four Seasons restaurant 10 years ago.
Now Toronto-based Pure Fun Confections has jumped on the organic bandwagon with its allnatural, Fair Trade floss. Five flavours - bubblegum, cinnamon, licorice, maple, root beer - appeal to any palate, from kiddie to gourmand, and the ingredients and colourings are derived from fruit and vegetable sources. Packaged in an air-tight plastic tub with a convenient handle, this product one-ups the traditional paper cone. Serve the selection in crystal bowls over the holidays; we predict that it will be the main attraction.
Currently available at Whole Foods and Pusateri's in Toronto ($5.99);
expanding nationwide in 2006. For more information, contact
